Women’s Studies International programs FIU's Women’s Studies Center has a strong commitment to international education. In 2005 we launched the Gender and Women’s Studies Across Cultures International Consortium which includes: Universidad de Granada (Spain); Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University (in Fez, Morocco); Universidad Nacional de Colombia (in Bogotá), and FIU. The second meeting of our consortium took place this year in Fez, during July 2009. The primary organizers of the Consortium are: Dr. Margarita María Birriel Salcedo, Profesora Titular de Universidad. In addition to our Consortium, FIU's Women’s Studies Center is part of the GEMMA Master's Degree in Women's and Gender Studies in the European Union. This is the first Erasmus Mundus Master in Women's and Gender Studies in Europe. GEMMA an interdisciplinary program that provides high quality academic education and professional training in the areas of Women's Studies, Gender Studies and Equal Opportunities across Europe. Last spring 2008, Women’s Studies at Florida International University was invited to be part of the Action 3 GEMMA World and successfully joined four other institutions in this global dimension of GEMMA.
