Undergraduate Certificate Program in Women's Studies

Students who wish to concentrate, but not major, in Women's Studies may obtain a certificate. All undergraduate students (of any College or School) are eligible to earn the Women's Studies Certificate, consisting of six Women's Studies courses = 18 credits (three core concentration courses from three of four categories below, and three electives). There is also a fully online certificate option (see below).

How to Apply to FIU for a Post-baccalaureate Undergraduate Certificate:
Students who are new to FIU and who wish to earn a post-baccalaureate undergraduate certificate should:

(1) Apply to FIU as a non-degree seeking student (click for FIU Registrar's Forms page for appropriate form).
(2) Once admitted, fill out the Certificate Application Form and return to Women's Studies Center. Post-baccalaureate certificate earners may apply a maximum of three Women's Studies courses (9 credits) earned at other universities or colleges to the undergraduate certificate.

Fully Online Undergraduate Academic Certificate in Women's Studies

The Women's Studies Fully Online Certificate Program provides an opportunity for students to integrate scholarship about gender from a variety of disciplines into a coherent program of study. This includes six required courses central to an understanding of women in a social and historical context. The courses provide a basic grounding in Women's Studies that should be useful in many other majors, as excellent preparation for graduate study, and for professional development. Students completing the fully online certificate should complete six courses of 3 credit hours each (18 credit hours total) from the following list of courses offered online:

3) ECS 3021 Women, Culture, and Economic Development
4) MAN 4102 Managing Diversity
5) REL 3171 Sex and Religion
6) SOP 3742 Psychology of Women

Eligibility:
The online certificate may be awarded to both degree and non-degree seeking students in any field. All FIU undergraduates, and post-baccalaureate students from FIU and other universities, are eligible to earn the Women's Studies Online Certificate.

How To Enroll:
Students who are earning a fully online certificate should download the application above and apply through the Women's Studies Center. Students in the fully online program should request an exemption from the usual certificate core requirements, with the permission of the director.
