| Bernice
Waldman has studied painting at the University of South
Florida, Tampa; Miami Dade Community College, Kendall
Campus and is currently enrolled at Florida International
University. She is a life-long resident of Miami and began
studying painting and drawing as a mature adult.
In
1998 and 1999, she was awarded first place awards by
the Columbia University Scholastic Press Association
for illustration in the annual literary publication
of MDCC, Miambiance, and was a cover design
contest winner for the magazine.
Recently,
her work has taken a step toward abstraction with depictions
of the physical world; its forms and textures.
The
painting, At the Harbor, was executed in
2000 and was her first collage. This work was done in
acrylic and pasted raw canvas as texture.
