Artist: Bernice Waldman

Bernice Waldman has studied painting at the University of South Florida, Tampa; Miami Dade Community College, Kendall Campus and is currently enrolled at Florida International University. She is a life-long resident of Miami and began studying painting and drawing as a mature adult.

In 1998 and 1999, she was awarded first place awards by the Columbia University Scholastic Press Association for illustration in the annual literary publication of MDCC, “Miambiance”, and was a cover design contest winner for the magazine.

Recently, her work has taken a step toward abstraction with depictions of the physical world; its forms and textures.

The painting, “At the Harbor”, was executed in 2000 and was her first collage. This work was done in acrylic and pasted raw canvas as texture.
